Noma Khumalo Bemoans Exploitation in the Music Industry

Remember her? Idols South Africa Season 11 winner, Noma Khumalo, is now fighting for rights of local artists.

She is now the Cultural and Creative Industries Federation of South Africa (CCIFSA) Deputy Secretary in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.

Recalling her personal experience after being announced the Idols SA Winner in 2016, MaKhumalo says lack of support from the record label she was signed under drove her into a state of depression.

“Society has this idea that the competition continues to support the contestant that won. Their responsibility is to entertain South Africa and as soon as they say ‘and the winner is…’ they’re literally done with you and the record company takes over.

Noma then recounts how she felt neglected by the company in favour of established artists which inspired her to become an activist.
