KZN Premier Thami Ntuli announces his cabinet

KZN Premier Thami Ntuli told his Cabinet to hit the ground running during his inauguration ceremony in Pietermaritzburg.

The MECs were also announced and sworn at the ceremony.

Addressing the dignitaries he promised to fight crime and instability in th province and announced that the Department of Community Safety and Liaison will be under his office.

“l wish to assure all our people, that we will be a government that will promote sustainable dialogue. Wherein all public and private stakeholders including our partners in non-government organisations and non-profit organisations, will enjoy unhindered access to us as their servants, “outlined Ntuli.

The Premier also pledge to protect his Office and added that he will never betray the trust of those who deployed him an members of his Cabinet.

“Together with my new Cabinet, I promise that we will work for you. We will deliver services, opportunities and ultimately, hope and prosperity. I ask the People of KwaZulu-Natal, to partner with us, as we start the process of rebuilding KwaZulu-Natal*.

The Cabinet members represent members from the coalition government in the province which saw Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane retaining her post.

DA’s KZN Provincial leader, Francoise Rodgers has been appointed as MEC for Finance which is regarded as a bold move as the DA is always criticising government for misusing the funds.

ANC’s Chairperson who was tipped to be the next KZN Premier Siboniso Duma was moved from Economic Development, Tourism and Traditional Affairs to Transport and Human Settlements MEC.

Former Zululand Mayor Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi has been appointed as MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) while the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs is Reverebd Musa Keith Zondi.

The MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure has been given to DA’s Lukas Marthinus Meyer while IFP’s Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa is the new MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development.

Former MEC for Transport, Community Safety Liaison Sipho Hlomuka has been appointed as the MEC for Education which is faced by issues of shortages of classrooms after the recent floods in the province.

Sports, Arts and Culture MEC who will also deal with the artists in the province is Mntomuhle Khawula.

The MEC for the Department of Social Development is Mbali Chinga.
