President Cyril Ramaphosa has promised that the seventh administration will address the plight of the nation during his inaugural speech in Pretoria.
The ceremony took place at the Union Buildings in Pretoria under the theme “30 Years of Democracy, Partnership and Growth” where he said South Africans directed the politicians to work together through their votes.
No political party received an outright majority to form the government which has led to the formation of the Government of National Unity (GNU).
Ramaphosa’s second term is formed by the formation of the GNU by the African National Congress (ANC), the Democratic Alliance (DA), the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), Good Party, Ptriotoc Alliance (PA).
The ceremony was attended by amongst othera, the African Heads of States like the Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Speaker of the National Assembly Thoko Didiza, Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane. Mayors, the religious leaders and even members of the public.
The President acknowledged that he has a sacred duty to unite the people of South Africa.
“We affirm that history has placed kn our shoulders the responsibility to transform our country into a non-racial and non-sexist society. We affirm our determination to build a more equal and caring society,” said Ramaphosa.
On the economy, he promised that the seventh administration will resolve to build a growing and inclusive economy that offers opportunities and livelihoods of all people.
The country is waiting in anticipation to see how President Ramaphosa will create a winning Cabinet as he is expected to involve GNU role players who have assisted in his re-election.
President Ramaphosa warned that thos3 who seek to devide the nation will not succeed while commiting to working with different formations in rebuilding the nation.
The opposition parties have over the years been calling for the President to downsize the cabinet and to hire qualified Ministers.
The ANC has confirmed that the Cabinet will be made by the menbers of the GNU bloc.
President Ramaphosa is expected to announce his new Cabinet over the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Young Communist League of South Africa has said Ramaphosa’s inauguration shows resilience and unity of South Africans.
Professor Somadoda Fikeni who is the Chairperson of the Public Service said the reform and the rethinking of the architecture of the state is critical before forming the state.
Dr Fikeni also said the government needs to look into consolidating the state owned companies.
