The Democratic Alliance has suspended its newly sworn MP Ronaldo Gouws with immediate effect following the surfacing of a video in which he uses explicit language directly opposed with the value system of the DA.
This follows a petition that was signed by over 500 000 South Africans who wanted him to be suspended from Parliament after a fresh video with k-word surfaces.
Chairperson of the DA Federal Council, Helen Zille said his case has been referred to the referral legal commission of the party.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Has also called for his suspension and said, Gouws has ‘build his reputation over the past few years on stoking racial hatred towards Africans’ and has been a vocal proponent of what the party describes as “fake news around the so-called farm murders.”
Zille said, “If Gouws wants to state his defence he will be able to do so, but till then he is suspended from all party activities, and we awaits the outcome of his disciplinary hearing.”
DA leader John Steenhuisen previously defended Gouws by attributing his past comments to youthful indiscretion.
Gouws said the video dated back to “when I was young and still a student.” He said he regretted the tone he uses then.
He Then dismissed claims he was recist.
