The South African Police Service (SAPS) will destroy over 14 000 firearms, firearm parts and bullets during a destruction process in Vanderbijlpark today.
These firearms, firearm parts and ammunition have been collected during policing operations across the country and subsequently forfeited to the State as they pose a threat to the safety and security of the populations of this country; others were handed in voluntarily.
This will also end the circulation of these firearms as there won’t be a chance that they will be missing or get back to the community. SAPS say, this is the first firearm destruction process for the 2024/2025 financial year.
The Acting Component Head for Firearm, Liquor and Second-Hand Goods (FLASH), Brigadier Nonhlanhla Skhakhane, was joined by various other senior SAPS management as she officiates over the official firearm destruction process.
SAPS has since 2019 destroyed 263 545 firearms to date.
