KZN Premier has warned people of the province to refrain from starting veld fires

Government of Provincial Unity led by KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli has promised the Kenville Community during his visit that the plans to provide them with the proper houses will be fast-tracked following a fire that displaced more than 300 people and claimed a life of a pregnant woman and an unborn child on Sunday.

The Premier was joined eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba and his Deputy Cllr Zandile Myeni, Cogta MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi, MEC for Finance Fracois Rodgers, Sports, Arts and Culture MEC Mntomuhle Khawula, Agriculture, Rural and Development MEC Thembeni ka Madlopha-Mthethwa said eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba has promised to provide proper land within the municipality so that the Kenville Community will be moved.

So far the affected community has been provided with food parcels, blankets and all temporary shelter while government is working on a permanent solution.

The province has recorded R30 million in damages from the incidents that took place over the weekend which include veld fires in different parts of the province.

The Premier said the livestock and sugar plantations were also affected.

KZN Cogta and the Agriculture and Development are working on providing food for the livestocks in the affected farms.

He promised that his government will pull its resources to assist all those who are affected including.

The province of KwaZulu-NAtal recently dealt with the uncontrollable weather conditions which displaced Tongaat community in recent weeks making it difficult for the province to have enough resources.

The Premier warned the people of KwaZulu-Natal to be careful of the veld fires as the fires are dangerous to the lives of the people.

“On Sunday six firefighters lost their lives in the line of duty while responding to the fire in the area of Boston towards Bulwer in Umngeni Local Municipality. These brave workers who paid the ultimate price worked at Farmusa Contracting to Sappi Forest for firefighting and civil cultural services. They were providing assistance to fire fighters on the Sterling farm about 30 kilometres away from Bulwer in Southern KwaZulu-Natal, said the Premier.

On Wednesday the Premier will together with National Cogta Minister who is also the IFP Leader, Velenkosini Hlabisa visit different wards of Msunduzi Local Municipality to pay respect to the families of the deceased.
