EThekwini Municipality reSURGEnce Gospel Festival organisers have apologised to the fans of the American gospel singer Shirley Caesar who is no longer performing on Sunday at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) due to what they call unforeseen logistical hindrances.
The “I Remember Mama” singer was scheduled share the stage with the local artists such as Ayanda Ntanzi, Dumi Mkokstad, Xolly Mncwango and Mnqobi Nxumalo.
However, the Municipality is promising the gospel fans that the reSURGEnce mass choir, directed by Multi Emmy Award Winner Curtis Farrow from the United States of America will grace the event.
eThekwini Municipality is currently hosting the reSURGEnce Conference which seeks to highlight the status of Black Businesses in New York, America, and globally from 17 to 21 July.
The US delegation arrived in time to celebrate this year’s International Mandela Day by visiting Ohlange High School where the late Nelson Mandela cast his vote in South Africa’s first all-race elections.
The public is advised that the event is free to anyone who wish to attend.
The Municipality said “We wish to announce that the renowned first lady of gospel music Shirley Caesar will not be performing at the reSURGEnce Gospel Fest, scheduled for Saturday, 20 July 2024, in Durban. As the organisers, we sincerely apologise to Caesar’s fans. We are excited to welcome to Durban Multi Grammy Award Winner Bishop Hezekiah Walker and his choir who will be performing on Saturday night, ” the Municipality said.
