EThekwini Municipality urges the public to help in it’s efforts to clamp down on the theft and vandalism of the City’s water and sanitation infrastructure.
The Municipality is under pressure to deal with the issue of providing water to the residents, but this is proving to be a huge setback as it has to replace stolen infrastructure amongst other things.
Is some facilities the City has been forced to hire security companies to guard against unlawful activities.
The newly appointed Mayor Cyril Xaba recently visited Inanda area and witnessed their frustrations as they have no water for the past ten years.
He has promised to help restore the City to it’s former glory as it has been placed under Section 154 Administration by Cogta MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi.
This past weekend, infrastructure at several water and sanitation facilities was stolen or vandalised. In these incidents, copper cables, vehicle batteries, and other items were stolen.
The City has said that the “unlawful conduct is an impediment to the City as it strives to provide efficient service delivery to residents. This theft and vandalism costs the City to restore or replace the damaged infrastructure as well as to deploy security to safeguard the infrastructure, ‘it said.
