DA wishes team SA well

The Democratic Alliance (DA) wished team South Africa the best of luck in their bid for glory at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Featuring a squad of nearly 150 athletes participating in 19 sports codes, they believed that team SA will fly the South African flag high with pride.

The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) have announced that Sprint Star Akani Simbine will be one of the flag bearers for South Africa at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, joining him as a co-flag bearer is Caitlin Rooskrantz highlighting South Africa’s Gender equality in sports.

The Paris Olympics will be held in Paris, having previously hosted in 1900 and 1924 Paris will become the second city ever to host the Summer Olympics three times.

The Olympics will be from Friday,26 July 2024 to Sunday 11 August 2024.

However, some sporting events like soccer and rugby have already begun due to the length of the schedule.
But Jean-Pierre Farandou, the chief executive of SNCF, said the plans of thousands who had hoped to come to Paris for the games had been “ruined”.

“We are sorry that we are not able to run the trains expected by the French people. Today, it is the big departures that are being attacked, it is the French that are being attacked,” Farandou told BFMTV.

Furthermore, the coordinated disruption will see 800,000 passengers face delays over the weekend, with up to 250,000 affected just before the Olympics opening ceremony is set to take place on the River Seine Today.
Five incidents of damage or attempted damage to the SNCF network occurred between 1 am and 5.30 am, targeting electrical or signalling boxes, according to France Info.

More than 10,500 athletes will embark on a unique journey through the city’s heart by boat, a first in the history of the games. Paris, known for its fashion and culture, also boasts a rich sports heritage. For the Summer Games, the city’s existing sporting venues will be utilised, with the newly constructed Aquatics Center serving as the stage for artistic swimming, water polo, and diving events.

“Carrying the hope of a nation is no easy feat, however, as a proud sporting nation blessed with immense talent and passion,  every South African will ensure that the roaring cheers from thousands of kilometers away resonate with you as you Run, Jump, and swim towards a podium finish,” said DA
