In the vibrant city of Durban, where creativity thrives, Zandile Cynthia Ngobese’s artistic journey has spanned over two decades. Though she has been a fixture in the arts for 22 years, it wasn’t until 2022 that Zandile started to gain recognition as an actor. With captivating roles on popular South African soap operas and telenovelas like Umkhokha, Imbewu, Uzalo, and Usiko, she’s quickly making her mark in the entertainment industry.
Zandile’s career in the arts began long before her TV debut. As a dancer and backing vocalist, she shared stages with South African legends including Hugh Masekela, Thandiswa Mazwai, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Her passion for performance started in her youth, excelling in speech and drumming during high school, even earning the opportunity to perform internationally in England.
In 2006, Zandile deepened her craft by training in theatre under Jerry Pooe, taking part in productions such as King Dini Zulu and Kamasa. Her diverse talents from acting, dancing, and singing became the foundation of her freelance career, where she thrived as a choreographer and dance instructor in both traditional and contemporary styles.
Despite the challenges of being a freelance artist, including delays in payment, Zandile remains passionate about her acting career. Currently, she plays a role as Maximba, an elderly church leader, on Umkhokha airing on Mzansi Magic. This prime-time role has proven to be a major breakthrough for her, showcasing the TV acting can offer.
Zandile’s advice to aspiring actors without formal qualifications is simple: “Resilience and consistency are the roots of success. With dedication and the right mindset, nothing is impossible.” She encourages others to pursue their dreams relentlessly, and always carry themselves with respect and dignity.
Her journey proves that with talent, persistence, and hard work, even the most unlikely dreams can become a reality.
