Former Springbok coach turned politician

Former Springboks coach Peter De Villiers has been officially welcomed into the uMkhonto WeSizwe Party (MKP) by the party’s Deputy President Dr. John Hlophe at a ceremony this week.

De Villiers was previously a member of Partricia De Lille’s GOOD party before being kicked out after allegations of sexual misconduct in march, 2024.The decision to join a predominantly black party has attracted criticism for De Villiers.

In an interview, Hlophe stated that the MKP allows freedom of participation regardless of skin colour.

I am convinced the MKP will grow. We are here to make real and meaningful participation.

The former Springboks coach expressed his enthusiasm about joining the party. He also stated that he will use his sports experience in his new political home.

As a Springboks coach, I had the opportunity to allow people to think for themselves, to act and to make the country proud

Hlophe said that the MKP is excited to have De Villiers and they are confident in his leadership capabilities.
