JG Zuma High School Sets the Bar High and Celebrates Top Achiever Naledi Mchunu’s Success

JG Zuma High School in KwaMashu has once again proven its excellence, achieving a remarkable 99.5% pass rate in the 2024 matric results, contributing to KwaZulu-Natal’s impressive third-place ranking in the province. Principal Mthembu, beaming with pride, highlighted the school’s outstanding performance and set a shining example for future learners. Among the school’s top achievers was Naledi Mchunu, who not only passed with four distinctions but has also earned a prestigious invitation to the MEC’s Breakfast for the Class of 2024 Excellence and Awards. Her hard work and dedication have become a beacon of inspiration for other learners, with Principal Mthembu urging the next classes to follow in Naledi’s footsteps. “Her achievements demonstrate that with focus, determination, and the right support, every student can reach for greatness,” said Mthembu. JG Zuma High School’s overall performance this year is nothing short of impressive: out of 187 matriculants, 164 received bachelor passes, 20 earned diplomas, and only three obtained higher certificates. These results are a testament to the commitment of the school’s educators, students, and the local community, defying the challenges often faced by township schools. As Principal Mthembu proudly points out, JG Zuma is proving that excellence is not bound by location but by ambition and hard work. He encourages the Class of 2025 to continue raising the bar and aiming higher, just as Naledi Mchunu has done. The school’s vision is clear – to produce even more future leaders who will continue to bring pride to KwaMashu and beyond.

Calls to Support Local E-Hailing Services

SANTACO officials are calling on the South African government and commuters to support local e-hailing services, namely: Teksi Ride, Shuma and Yo!Taxi. Speaking at the SANTACO KZN Second Annual Business Summit held at the Durban International Convention Centre, Mr. Sizwe Mvubu, Chairperson for the Metre Taxis within the organisation said it is difficult for them to compete with foreign e-hailing services due to financial constraints.  “Foreign e-hailing services are subsidised by their governments, hence they have many promotions and specials which we can’t afford. Secondly, we are regulated by our government in terms of the minimum fee we can charge which isn’t the case with the foreign services. The commuters will obviously choose the cheaper options” he said.  Deputy Chairperson for Metre Taxis in the eThekwini Metro, Mr. Vijay Mothilal echoed the same sentiments. Noma Khumalo Bemoans Exploitation in the Music Industry

Remember her? Idols South Africa Season 11 winner, Noma Khumalo, is now fighting for rights of local artists. She is now the Cultural and Creative Industries Federation of South Africa (CCIFSA) Deputy Secretary in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.  Recalling her personal experience after being announced the Idols SA Winner in 2016, MaKhumalo says lack of support from the record label she was signed under drove her into a state of depression. “Society has this idea that the competition continues to support the contestant that won. Their responsibility is to entertain South Africa and as soon as they say ‘and the winner is…’ they’re literally done with you and the record company takes over. Noma then recounts how she felt neglected by the company in favour of established artists which inspired her to become an activist.  Watch the interview below: @voiceonthemoveradio [ICYMI] We had CCIFSA leadership from the president Joy Mbewana Chairperson and Idols SA Noma Khumalo talking all things cultural and creative Industry federation of South Africa #Welcome2TheFuture ♬ original sound – Voice On The Move Radio
